August 9, 2021 (Washington, D.C.) -- Congressmen Alan Lowenthal (D-CA) and Don Beyer (D-VA), co-chairs of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus, today issued the following statement on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) newest report on the climate crisis:

"Today's report from the IPCC establishes unequivocally that climate change is rapidly intensifying and creating dangerous conditions across the globe. Unprecedented changes in every region of the planet have led to an increase in natural disasters, including droughts, flooding, and monsoons.

"The report shows that without immediate, drastic reductions in greenhouse gasses we are expected to exceed 1.5° C of warming within 20 years. Humans have been facing the consequences climate change for decades, and this new data confirms that we are running out of time to correct course.

"We are grateful to the scientists who dedicated their time to compiling and analyzing these findings. Congress must act now with bold, sweeping legislation to curb the effects of climate change and protect the future of this planet."
